PAP (Patent Application Pending)

Patent application pending (PAP) numbers are displayed on the organization Depat.org status listing as long as an organization has provided Depat.org with proof of at least a completed USPTO.gov provisional patent application. Depat.org does not require you to submit the application, yet you must have prepared a pdf copy of the USPTO.gov provisional patent application to obtain a PAP number.

When the USPTO issues either a: patent pending or patent # secured status, simply forward such proof to have your Depat.org status listing updated to such.

If you're not well versed in patents, worry not, in many cases, simply having proof of work with screenshots serve as the basics for a provisional patent. For instance, corporations such as Apple hold many hundreds of patents due simply to screenshots of their software designs, product designs, and/or engineering designs.

In some instances, Intellectual Property (IP) may be held in a stealth format for some time after an organization begins marketing of a product or service before a patent application holding trade secrets is officially submitted to the USPTO or Depat. The main reason(s) for this being the competitive advantage to keep such IP protected and time for IPO launch and stock value growth reasons.
